Now, in this column, the family of deceased pledge Phanta (Jack) Phoummarath has taken public video documents from Jack’s Lambda Phi Epsilon deadly initiation and commissioned filmmaker Dan O’Rourke to tell the story in the accompanying video The Pledge. It I every bit as powerful and educational as “Unless a Death Occurs.”
Video shows lewd initiation, dangerous use of fireworks, and possible drinking on the job. Chief’s denials get thrown back into his face when 2004 video surfaces this week.
The fraternity was Lambda Phi Epsilon. The dead youth was Jack Phoummarath.
Charges pressed by Brent Whiteside, a pledge for Kappa Alpha Psi, a historically African American fraternity which forbids the hazing of prospective members. Link
Link to the arrests of Dean Campbell and Ada Badgley (since thrown out by New Jersey prosecutor). Rider fraternity pledge had a blood-alcohol content five times the legal limit. No action was taken against the officials by Rider. A civil suit has gone ahead: also on video. LINK
